CSK players celebrate a dismissal against GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad

CSK put in an all-round performance to beat table-toppers GT by xxx runs in their last match of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Dewald Brevis and Devon Conway came up with contrasting half-centuries while spinners Noor Ahmad and Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball picking up five wickets.

‌Opting to bat first on a hot afternoon at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Chennai Super Kings got off to a blazing start with young opener Ayush Mhatre smashing 28 runs, including three sixes and two fours, in Arshad Khan’s first over. Fellow opener Devon Conway and Urvil Patel continued the surge after Mhatre’s dismissal to take the side past the 100-run mark in the ninth over. Conway got to his fifty in 34 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes, before being dismissed off the very next ball. GT showed signs of a comeback with the wicket of Shivam Dube also coming in the previous over but they were in for a leather hunt from Dewald Brevis. The in-form batter came up with another scintillating display of power and timing in his 19-ball half-century. The Protean hit five sixes and four fours during his innings and added 74 runs in under seven overs with Ravindra Jadeja to take his side past the 200-run mark. When Brevis was dismissed off the last ball of the innings for a quickfire 57 off 23 balls, CSK had already piled up a massive 230/5 on the board.

In response, GT had a nightmarish start losing skipper Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford within the fifth over as the score read 30. Opener Sai Sudharsan and Shahrukh Khan joined together to rebuild the GT innings as they mixed caution with aggression during their fourth-wicket association. Their 55-run partnership steadied the ship but CSK skipper MS Dhoni brought in left-arm spinner Jadeja to get a breakthrough for the side. And he rightly obliged with a double-wicket over sending back both the set batters in the 11th over with GT still needing 145 runs from the last nine overs. Noor Ahmad cleaned up the lower middle order as Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia and Arshad Khan were clueless by the wrist spinner’s turn and guile. Both Noor and Anshul Kamboj finished with three wickets apiece as the GT innings folded up for 147 resulting in CSK’s comprehensive win. With the second defeat on the trot, GT will have to wait for other results to go their way to ensure a top-two finish in IPL 2025.
