ENG vs IND | Twitter reacts to Siraj fuming at Washington's momentum-breaking misfield

Mohammed Siraj was left frustrated by India's fielding standards at Edgbaston on Sunday

Tests have always been described by its purveyors as a game of attrition and survival, a principle England seem to have banished in the Bazball era. Yet when forced to settle playing for a draw at Edgbaston, they were falling into Mohammed Siraj's traps before Washington Sundar ruined momentum.

England's most optimistic approach to Test cricket was also forced to face a reality check on Day 5 at Edgbaston when two early wickets left them reeling at 83/5 while chasing over 600 against India. With 10 overs of play already lost due to the rain, the option of going for a win seemed as practical as playing four spinners in England, meaning skipper Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith were forced to hunker down and avoid the fall of further wickets. However, given the tenacity of both batsmen to play shots, deadbatting their way through they day was equally unlikely, and signs were beginning to show when Stokes hit consecutive fours after crawling off the line. India tried to capitalize with two maidens on the trot but just when the pressure was building to a peak, Washington Sundar let the momentum slip much to Mohammed Siraj's chagrin.

On the second ball of the 35th over, Smith drove a regulation punch ball towards cover where Sundar was at hand. However, the all-rounder made a lazy effort and inexplicably let the red cherry slip through his fingers, allowing the hosts to take a run after 13 consecutive dots. Siraj could not believe his eyes as he instantly blurted out curses in disgust, the eyes flared wide and cheeks red with anger. The pacer even gave an angry look to the slip cordon, where skipper Shubman Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant stood.

Twitterati was entertained to say the least.

Very angry!

Yes!

Gotta ask him!

He is having tough time there!

Really?

Well! May be!
