Aston Villa have reportedly made Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta their priority January target. The Eagles value the 28-year-old at £40m, with Newcastle and Leeds also interested. Mateta, under contract until 2027, scored 17 goals last season as Palace won the FA Cup and has already netted three times this campaign, including against Villa.

As the January transfer window approaches, Aston Villa have reportedly identified Jean-Philippe Mateta as a priority signing. The 28-year-old Crystal Palace striker has attracted interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Leeds United, but Villa are keen to secure his services. Palace are said to value Mateta at £40 million, with his current contract running until 2027.

Discussions over a potential new deal at Selhurst Park have already taken place, but the Frenchman’s recent form has only intensified speculation. Mateta was a standout performer for Oliver Glasner’s Palace side last season, netting 17 goals across all competitions and playing a key role in their FA Cup triumph. He has carried that form into the current campaign, scoring three times already, including in Palace’s 3-0 win at Villa Park before the international break.

With Unai Emery eager to bolster his attacking options, Villa’s pursuit of Mateta could spark a competitive bidding battle in January. Newcastle and Leeds remain serious contenders, yet Villa’s intent suggests Emery sees the striker as a major addition to push the club’s ambitions further this season. Mateta’s proven record in England makes him one of the most sought-after forwards heading into the winter market.
