Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from the Queen's club championship as the Spaniard was advised by doctors to rest after an exhausting clay court season. The 31-year old bagged a record 10th French Open title on Sunday after overcoming Stan Wawrinka in the finals of the tournament.

“I am very sorry to say that I am not going to be able play Queen’s next week,” Nadal said.

“I am sad to make this decision because I love Queen’s, I won the tournament in 2008 and every time I reached the Wimbledon final it was after playing Queen’s. I was hoping to take some days off and then be ready, but at 31, and after a long clay court season with all of the emotions of Roland Garros, and after speaking to my team and doctor, I have decided my body needs to rest if I am going to be ready to play Wimbledon," he added

“Sorry to all the great fans in Britain and to the tournament organisers. I hope to see you at Queen’s next year.” he concluded.

The Queen's club championship is a is considered to be a major warmup event before Wimbledon, which is scheduled to be held on July 3.

Nadal has featured in five Wimbledon events from 2006-2011 and has won the 2008 and 2010 title after playing at the Queen's championship.

The King of Clay stood by his name and won 24 out of the 25 matches he played on the clay court this season and bagged his 10th Monte Carlo, 10th Barcelona Open and fifth Madrid Open titles in the process over the past four months.
