Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 25 goals in 31 La Liga games, started on the bench in Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid due to recent hamstring troubles. Despite a brief return against Inter, coach Hansi Flick opted not to risk him. Barca won 4-3, with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha among the scorers.
For the game between Barcelona and Real Madrid in El Clasico, Robert Lewandowski started on the bench due to his ongoing recovery from a hamstring injury. The 36-year-old striker had missed four games before making a brief return in the Champions League against Inter Milan. Coach Hansi Flick chose not to risk Lewandowski or Alejandro Balde from the start, instead favoring Ferran Torres and young defender Gerard Martín.
Despite Lewandowski’s 25 goals in 31 La Liga games this season, his full return is being managed cautiously with three more league fixtures left. On the pitch, Real Madrid took a commanding 2–0 lead through a quick-fire brace from Kylian Mbappe, but Barcelona responded fiercely. Eric Garcia and 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal pulled them level, followed by two goals from Raphinha in just 11 minutes.
Although Mbappe completed his hat-trick to reduce the deficit, Barcelona held on for a thrilling 4–3 win. The victory puts them seven points clear at the top of the table with three matches remaining, bringing them within reach of the La Liga title. The game, held at the Olympic Stadium, was also Barca’s final appearance at the venue before returning to the renovated Camp Nou next season.
