India Women keep three-match series alive with a 120-run victory in the second ODI against Australia Women in Chandigarh. Smriti Mandhana sets the tone with an incredible century, and Indian bowlers finished the job in the second innings to level the series 1-1 with one more game to go.

India Women beat Australia Women by 120 runs

Australia Women won the toss and put India Women into bat. The Indian openers, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, were slightly cautious at the start but made up for it towards the end of the power play to finish on a healthy score of 64/0. While it seemed like the duo might put on another 100-run stand, Rawal was dismissed in the 12th over by Ashleigh Gardner. Despite Rawal’s dismissal, Mandhana started to increase the scoring rate with some explosive shots while Harleen Deol was taking her time at the crease. Unfortunately, the partnership of 49 came to an end after Deol was run out in the 19th over due to a terrible mix-up. However, the Mandhana continued the run flow while India Women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also started to find her feet. Though Kaur was eventually dismissed by Gardner in the 26th over, the Women in Blue were still in a comfortable position with the score reading 153/3. A 300+ total was on the cards as Mandhana formed another 40+ run stand with Deepti Sharma until the number one ODI batter was dismissed in the 33rd over by Tahlia McGrath after a brilliant knock of 117. There was a sudden break in the scoring rate as soon as Mandhana was dismissed, which made the probable 300+ score tougher to achieve as the game went on. However, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma started to find some rhythm towards the end of the second power play, bringing the score to 235/4 after 40 overs. Unfortunately, the partnership was broken in the 42nd over, and the Aussies kept chipping away with the wickets at the backend with Darcie Brown and Annabel  Sutherland creating havoc at the death as the India women lost three wickets in quick succession, and Deepti started to run out of partners. The situation went from bad to worse as Deepti was dismissed for 40 in the 47th over. Though Sneh Rana might have played a crucial cameo towards the end, they still fell eight runs short of the desired landmark as they were finally bowled out for 292.

Though the hosts might have fallen 10 runs short of the magical number, but they ensured that they started well with the ball as pacer Renuka Singh Thakur and Kranti Goud dismissed Georgia Voll and Alyssa Healy early in the powerplay to put the visitors under pressure. The Aussies were in a spot of bother as they were restricted to 25/2 in the first 10 overs. Though there was a slow and steady 50-run partnership between Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry that kept the Aussies in the game, Sneh Rana negated the threat in the 17th over by dismissing Mooney with the visitors still struggling at 62/3. While it seemed like India Women might creep back into the game, Ellyse Perry continued the run-flow and got great support from Annabel Sutherland at the other end. The 46-run stand started to look threatening until Radha Yadav provided the crucial breakthrough of Perry with a brilliant catch off her own bowling in the 25th over, and were once again in trouble with the score reading 108/4. Though the wicket of Perry was a big blow for the franchise, Sutherland continued to score at a brisk rate until she fell victim to a brilliant catch by Harmanpreet Kaur in the 30th over. With this scalp, India Women were very much ahead of the game with two new batters at the crease with the score at 134/5. From here, the Aussie hopes started dwindling as Deepti Sharma dismissed the last recognized batters in Gardner and Tahlia McGrath. In the end, the visitors were bundled out for 190, and the Indian team won the game by 102 runs.
