ENG vs SA preview third ODI

ngland and South Africa will battle against each other in the third ODI at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton on September 7. While the Proteas will be looking for their first clean sweep win against the Three Lions, Harry Brook and his men will be looking to finish series on a positive note.

The third and final ODI between England and South Africa will take place on Sunday, with South Africa having already claimed their first bilateral series win against the Three Lions with one game to go. Though the Proteas' 27-year struggle in the UK has finally come to an end as they have finally won their first series in England since 1998, there is still another feat that they will be eyeing in the upcoming game.

Though the Rainbow Nation has been dominant against the Barmy Army in ODIs, they have never earned a clean sweep series win in the format against them. This will be another historic feat on the cards, with the Proteas looking in great form with the one-sided win at Headingley in the first game and the thrilling five-run win in the second ODI. The England team, on the other hand, will not only be hoping to destroy the African Nation’s hope but will be looking to finish a disappointing series with a win.

Despite winning their last series against the West Indies, the hosts have had a terrible run in ODI’s having underperformed in the ODI World Cup and the Champions Trophy. They are currently ranked eighth in the ICC rankings as well and a whitewash could affect their chances in the ODI World Cup which will take place in 2027, and a win at Southampton will give the Harry Brook-led side a bit of confidence going forward.

Form Guide

Despite having a disappointing series so far, England’s recent form has still been decent with three wins and two losses from their last five games.

South Africa are having a great run in 50-over cricket, having a great run in the 50-over formant, having won four out of their last five encounters.

Pitch and Weather

The surface at the Rose Bowl in Southampton will be a balanced surface where the pacers might get a lot of bounce and seam movement with the new ball, but the conditions normally get better for batting as the game progresses. The average score at the venue is 254, which makes this an ideal ground for chasing, where the team can make use of the bowling-friendly conditions early on and restrict their opponent to a chaseable score.

The weather at Southampton is expected to be cloudy and overcast with a 52% chance of rain. The probable temperature will be around 20-22 degrees Celsius.

Team News

England would probably make a couple of changes to their lineup, where Jamie Overton can be brought back into the team in place of Brydon Carse to add more depth to their lineup, and Tom Banton could get an opportunity at the top in place of Ben Duckett, who struggled in the last two games.

South Africa might also make one change by bringing in their premier pacer in Kagiso Rabada in place of Senuran Muthusamy due to the overcast conditions at the venue.

England Probable XI: Jamie Smith, Tom Banton, Joe Root, Harry Brook(c), Jos Buttler(wk), Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood.

South Africa Probable XI: Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton(w), Temba Bavuma(c), Matthew Breetzke, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi.
