Following a brilliant win over the Mumbai Indians, Punjab sealed a spot in the top two and will now compete in Qualifier One. Reflecting on the victory and Punjab’s impressive campaign, star batter Shashank Singh spoke about the team’s journey and the preparation that helped them reach this stage.

Retained Punjab Kings star Shashank Singh shared his thoughts on the team’s performance this season, expressing pride and satisfaction at how things have unfolded. “It feels surreal to be very honest,” he said. “I mean, it feels really good, very satisfying. And the best thing is obviously we manifested as a team. As a team, not individually me, but as a team we manifested. When the auctions were done, we had a group on WhatsApp and then we had conversations. So we manifested that this year we will win the title.”

The middle-order batter credited the team’s preparation and collective effort, acknowledging the contributions of everyone involved. “Not only the players or the coaching staff, but everyone who is associated with us,” he said. “We had four, five camps before the IPL. And then you can see the results.”

Reflecting on the crucial game against Mumbai Indians, Shashank was full of praise for his teammates Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis for their standout performances with the bat.

“The wicket was much better than what it was initially. But again, 180 on board plus a very good bowling attack. MI has a very good bowling attack. So that was a tough task. But the way Priyansh and Josh played, I mean, it's out of the world. I mean, we know Priyansh, how well he's playing. And Josh, again, coming at the right time at the best form of his life. I mean, the shots he played, I mean, they were surreal shots.”, he added.

Shashank also had high praise for Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer, calling the opportunity to play under him a career highlight.

“Shreyas is a very dear friend. I know him since past 10-15 years. But playing under him, he being the captain, this was the best thing that has happened to me, to be very honest. I mean, the way he gives freedom to everyone, not only me, but to everyone in the team. And when I say everyone, it's the 25 of them, plus the support staff, plus the people who are in the content team, media team, logistics, everyone. The way he gives them the freedom, is something very appreciable about him.”

He wrapped up by emphasising the importance of team culture in shaping their journey and success this season. He said, “we have maintained the culture, and that is really helping us, everyone individually.”

Punjab Kings topped the points table with 19 points and are set to play Qualifier 1 at their home ground in Mullanpur on Thursday, aiming to continue their dream run toward a maiden IPL title.
