Glenn Maxwell leads from front to help WSF beat MINY by 6 wickets

Skipper Glenn Maxwell’s bowling performance, followed by Andries Gous’ brilliant 46-run knock during the run chase, helped Washington Freedom finish the league stage at the top of the table. After this defeat, MI New York finished fourth in the tournament standings, qualifying for the playoffs.

MI New York skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and decided to bat first; batting first, MINY’s opener Kunwarjeet Singh scored 33 runs off 30 balls, with five fours. Later in the innings, Heath Richards and Sunny Patel scored 16 runs each to help their side go past 100+ total and post 112/8 in the allotted 18 overs, reduced due to rain. 

Skipper Glenn Maxwell and all-rounder Glenn Phillips scalped 3 and 2 wickets, respectively, for Washington Freedom. Apart from these two, Saurabh Netravalkar, Jack Edwards and Rachin Ravindra also claimed a wicket each for their side in the first innings.

While chasing the target, star WSF batter Andries Gous smashed 46 runs off 34 balls, with seven fours and went unbeaten for his side. Later in the innings, Mark Chapman also contributed with 27 runs of 18 balls, with two fours and two sixes. On the back of these knocks, The Freedom comfortably crossed the line in just 15 overs, scoring 113/4 and winning the game by 6 wickets to reach the top of the table at the end of the league stage.

Tristan Luus scalped 2 wickets for his side in the second innings, alongside a wicket each bagged by Nosthush Kenjige and Fabian Allen.

WSF skipper and star all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his brilliant bowling performance for his side.
