Sports ministry has decided to include the performance of the medal winners in CWG for calculation of total points for awarding sporting honors this time. CWG medallists, who have applied for Khel Ratna and Arjuna awards, might get rewarded with a sporting honor for their impressive performances.

In a good news for the Gold Coast CWG medal winners, TOI has reported that sports ministry has agreed to include the performances of the CWG while deciding for the sporting honor this year.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and Sanjitha Chanu have consistently given some impressive performances for the country, but haven’t received any sporting honor from the government. This year their wait for an honor might finally come to an end.

The ministry has the right to nominate two sportspersons for the Khel Ratna award and three players for the Arjuna award. As per norms, a candidate’s performance of last four years up to December 31, 2017, will be taken into account to arrive at the total points accumulated by a sportsperson. However, the ministry could make an exception, like it did during the time of 2016 Rio Olympics and Paralympic Games, to consider their CWG performances.
