Liverpool moved 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside Derby. Diogo Jota ended his two-month goal drought by scoring in the 57th minute, converting Luis Diaz assist. With eight games remaining, Liverpool are on course for their record-equalling 20th English league title, bouncing back from recent setbacks in the League Cup and Champions League.

After being the dominant force in the Premier League this season, Liverpool moved closer to their 20th English top-flight title with a 1-0 victory over Everton in the Merseyside Derby. The win at Anfield, secured by Diogo Jota’s 57th-minute goal, extended Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table to 12 points over second-placed Arsenal with just eight games remaining in the 2024-25 season. The victory helped Liverpool recover from their recent setbacks in the League Cup final against Newcastle and the Champions League Round of 16 exit against Paris Saint-Germain.

The match saw Everton defender James Tarkowski receive a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Alexis Mac Allister, while Liverpool manager Arne Slot dismissed claims that Jota’s goal was offside, stating it was a legitimate decision. The win was crucial for Liverpool, especially after their previous 2-2 draw against Everton in February.

If Liverpool maintains their momentum, they are on track to equal Manchester United’s record of 20 league titles. Meanwhile, Manchester City, playing without injured striker Erling Haaland, secured a 2-0 win over Leicester to boost their Champions League qualification hopes, while Aston Villa and Newcastle also strengthened their positions in the race for Europe.
