Manchester City are keen on handing Raheem Sterling a brand new deal less than a year after the Englishman’s last contract renewal. The 24-year-old has been amongst the club’s best players since Pep Guardiola took over and has just eighteen months left on his current deal which is cause for concern.

English news outlet the Metro has reported that Manchester City are planning contract talks with Raheem Sterling despite giving the forward a new deal less than a year ago. The previous deal made the Englishman one of the best-paid players in the top flight with a three-year extension and a wage of around £300,000 a week. But the Metro has reported that the Cityzens are overjoyed with Sterling’s performances and want to make sure he stays at the club.

The 24-year-old has been previously linked with a move to Spain and even Italy over the last few years but no move has materialized so far. But with eighteen months left on his current contract with Manchester City, the club are keen to protect their investment and the Metro reported that City want to give him an incentive to stay. However, while they do value the former Liverpool starlet very highly, the report added that the Cityzens are not willing to break the bank to keep him.

The report added further that the Cityzens have accepted the fact that Sterling will seek a move to Spain in the near future but the club believe that they can stop that from happening. Any new deal will come with a significant wage increase and a large release clause somewhere around the £200 million mark but that’s only if Manchester City and Sterling can come to an agreement the Metro added.
