ENG vs IND | Twitter reacts as Duckett's 149 sees England chase down 371 with authority in Leeds

England controlled a record chase of 371 with masterful precision to take home Headingley honours on Day 5 by five wickets. Ben Duckett's 149 in a 188-run opening stand with Zak Crawley put the hosts in control, before a half-century from Joe Root killed off the game after a brief Indian revival.

‌Resuming on 21/0, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley weathered early spells from Bumrah and Siraj under overcast skies, with little swing on offer. Once Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur replaced them, Duckett upped the tempo, racing to a 66-ball fifty as Crawley played second fiddle. The pair stretched their opening stand to 117 by Lunch, keeping India wicketless.
Post the break, Duckett surged on despite a dropped catch on 97 by Jaiswal — his fourth of the match — and soon brought up a fluent century. A rain break briefly stalled England’s charge at 181/0, but Krishna struck soon after, removing Crawley for 65 and bowling Pope cheaply to give India hope. Duckett, though, counterattacked until Thakur removed him and Brook in back-to-back deliveries, dragging India back in. England went to Tea at 269/4, needing 102 more.
The final session saw Root and Stokes steady things, with Krishna again ineffective. Jadeja removed Stokes to keep India alive with 71 to get, but debutant Jamie Smith batted confidently. With England edging closer, the second new ball loomed as India’s last shot, but the hosts needed just 22 by the time the 80-over mark rolled around. Root promptly brought up his half-century in the final phase of play while Smith scored 16 runs in the 82nd over to seal off a famous victory.
