Captains often come with a midas touch during a game of cricket that works for the team perfectly. Shreyas Iyer pulled out a magic trick as he introduced Marcus Stoinis in the third over to see the back of Rohit Sharma during the Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad.

‌After a much-delayed start with rain calling the shots, Punjab Kings were right on the money with an excellent first over from Arshdeep Singh against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The left-arm pacer conceded only four runs as openers Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow found the moving ball tough to handle.

With a tight over, the left-arm pacer was expected to bowl one more with PBKS looking for an early wicket against MI’s heavy batting line-up. But skipper Shreyas Iyer, to everyone’s surprise brought in Marcus Stoinis in the third over. The viewers were bewildered with that bowling change as Stoinis served up a juicy half-volley first up which was smashed down the ground by Rohit.

Stoinis adopted course correction immediately as he pulled his length back a bit the next ball. Rohit, trying to flick the ball over square leg could not make clean contact as the ball went in the air after hitting the bottom part of his bat.

With Vyshak making no mistake at the boundary, Stoinis was pumped up as he dismissed big-fish Rohit early in such a crucial game. The Australian thumped his chest in elation showing why he was brought in and Shreyas was all smiles after coming up with a masterstroke.

Twitter was impressed by the Punjab Kings skipper’s decision to bring in the Australian so early in the match and with stunning success.

 Stoinis got him!
