‌Dewald Brevis’ power-packed century saw South Africa beat Australia by 53 runs in the second T20I in Darwin to square the three-match series. Brevis’ unbelievable knock powered the visitors to a huge total before pacers Corbin Bosch and Kwena Maphaka picked up three wickets each to neutralise Tim David’s 23-ball fifty.

After being put into bat first at the Marrara Stadium, the Proteas rode on Dewald Brevis’ whirlwind century to post 218/7 in their allotted 20 overs. The Chennai Super Kings batter biltzed to a 41-ball hundred, the second fastest by a Proteas batter behind David Miller, smashing 12 fours and eight sixes during his innings. He remained unbeaten on 125 off just 56 balls, also recording the highest individual score by a South African batter in T20Is. Tristan Stubbs supported him well with a 22-ball 31 as the South African innings was built around the duo’s 126-run fourth-wicket partnership. Left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis was the pick among the home side’s bowlers with a spell of 2/24 in four overs, with Glenn Maxwell also picking up two wickets.

In return, Tim David powered Australia’s chase after being promoted to number four. The hosts lost two early wickets with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter coming to the middle in just the fourth over. He smashed four sixes and four fours during his 23-ball fifty as the hosts went past the 100-run mark in the 10th over. But his dismissal took South Africa back into the match as they bowled out the home side for 165 in the 18th over. Bosch picked up 3/20 in three overs while Maphaka was expensive, conceding 57 runs in four overs for his three wickets.
