North Delhi Strikers will face the West Delhi Lions in the 19th Delhi Premier League game on Monday, August 11, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Harshit Rana-led side will aim to register the third successive win in the ongoing edition after a defeat in their campaign opener against CDK.

After securing a 27-run win against Purani Delhi 6 in their most recent game, the North Delhi Strikers will face the West Delhi Lions in their fourth game in the tournament’s current edition. The Strikers had a dismal start to their campaign in the second edition, with a massive eight-wicket defeat against the table toppers, Central Delhi Kings. They scored 174/7 before the Kings chased it successfully in 17.3 overs, scoring 177/2. However, Rana and Co. made a brilliant comeback after this loss, as they managed to beat Outer Delhi Warriors by 19 runs in the next game by defending the total of 163/7. In the recent game against Purani Delhi 6, Deepanshu Gulia’s 3-fer, alongside two wickets each picked by Harshit Rana and Kuldip Yadav, helped the Strikers bundle out PD6 at the score of 152 and successfully defend their total of 179/8. They will now target the third successive win in the tournament with a win against the Lions.

Speaking of Nitish Rana’s West Delhi Lions, they are also on the same page compared to the North Delhi Strikers, with a little difference in the timeline of defeats. The Lions are coming off a 15-run defeat against the Purani Delhi 6 in their previous game, in which they failed to chase the target of 187 runs and were restricted to 171/6 in the entire 20 overs. Earlier in their first two games, WDL defeated the East Delhi Riders by seven wickets, followed by a big eight-wicket win against the South Delhi Superstarz. They will also be eyeing strengthening their position in the ‘top four’ spots of the tournament’s points table.

Form Guide

NDS:  L W W

The Strikers have gained decent form after facing a defeat in their first game in the tournament. They now have two successive wins to their name and will have a moral advantage in this game against the Lions.

WDL:  W W L

The Lions had a brilliant start to their campaign in the ongoing second season, but they faced a 15-run defeat in the previous game against PD6. This defeat puts them quite a bit lower as favourites in the upcoming game against the Strikers.

NDS vs WDL Head-to-Head in T20S

North Delhi Strikers and West Delhi Lions have faced each other on two occasions, and both games were played last year in DPL 2024. The head-to-head rivalry between NDS and WDL is on an equal note, as the Lions defeated the Strikers by three wickets in the third DPL 2024 game. In the next face-off in the 19th game of the last edition, the Strikers cleared the books with a seven-wicket win over the Lions. Now, the winning side in this game will lead this head-to-head rivalry in DPL.

Pitch and Weather

The surface at the Arun Jaitley Stadium provides great assistance for the batters, mostly in the second innings. The team batting second has won more games compared to the team batting first in the tournament’s current edition. So, the toss-winning captain might look forward to bowling first and chasing the target in favorable conditions.

The weather in Delhi on Monday is expected to be a bit cloudy, with a gentle breeze, and the temperature is expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius.

Team News

Both teams have been in a decent run of form throughout the tournament played so far, so they will look forward to playing with the same playing XI without making any changes.

NDS Probable XI: Sarthak Ranjan, Vaibhav Kandpal, Yajas Sharma, Yash Bhatia, Arnav Bugga, Pranav Rajuvanshi(w), Arjun Rapria, Harshit Rana(c), Vikas Dixit, Siddhant Bansal, Kuldip Yadav.

Scoring runs and batting are two different art forms -- some look dour as cement while piling on scores, while others seem the business even when they keep failing. Alastair Cook certainly belongs to the latter class, yet could not help himself from indulging in some Rishabh Pantesque tomfoolery.
