‌The first double-header of the Hundred Competition 2025 is set to take place on Saturday, with the second game of the day to be played between the Welsh Fire and the London Spirit. This will be the battle of the two underdogs of the tournament. The two teams are tied with the most last-place finishes in the tournament and will also be looking to come back from disappointing losses in their first game of the season.

Welsh Fire were up against the Northern Superchargers in their first game of the tournament, which took place at Headingley. Though there were some glimpses of great batting from their opening batters in Steve Smith and Jonny Bairstow, their middle order and bowling department failed to deliver as they eventually lost the game by eight wickets in the end. The Tom Abell-led side will want to make a comeback in their first home game of the season.

London Spirit were already coming into the tournament after finishing at the bottom of the barrel last year and were completely outplayed by defending champions Oval Invincibles in the opening game of the season. The team was bundled out for a score of 80 at Lord’s courtesy of some great spells from Invincibles all-rounders Rashid Khan and Sam Curran. The only positive the Kane Williamson-led side could take from the game was a frugal bowling spell from Liam Dawson, who finished with figures of 2/9 in 20 balls in the match

Form Guide

Both teams' recent form in the tournament have been abysmal, and they are yet to win a single match in the last five encounters.

Welsh Fire vs London Spirit  Head-to-Head in The Hundred

The Welsh Fire and London Spirit have played four games against each other in the tournament, in which the head-to-head record is even, with both teams winning two games each.

Pitch and Weather

The Sophia Gardens in Cardiff is a surface that offers a lot of bounce and seam movements for the pacers and could be challenging for the batters. The last season of the tournament witnessed a lot of low-scoring games on the wicket, with only one game that was one by the team chasing. This could imply that chasing could be a tough challenge on this pitch.

The temperature in Cardiff is expected to be 21 degrees Celsius, and the conditions should be clear throughout the entire game.

Team News

Welsh Fire might make a change in the bowling department by bringing in Ajeet Singh Dale in place of David Payne, who had an average outing in the last game

Jamie Overton is expected to replace Ryan Higgins within the London Spirit lineup to give the playing eleven a bit more depth and experience.

Welsh Fire Probable XI: Jonny Bairstow (wk), Steven Smith, Luke Wells,  Tom Abell (c),  Tom Holder-Cadmore, Paul Walter, Saif Zaib, Chris Green, Ajeet Singh Dale, Josh Hull, Riley Meredith.

London Spirit Probable XI: David Warner, Keaton Jennings,  Kane Williamson(c), Wayne Madsen, Ashton Turner, John Simpson (wk), Jamie Overton, Liam Dawson, Luke Wood, Richard Gleeson, Dan Worrall.
