When you're just 14 years old, heartbreaks on the cricket field are part of the journey, especially after a dream debut. Rajasthan Royals’ newest recruit, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, had a fairytale start, only to be dismissed at a crucial moment, as it left the youngster visibly emotional.

‌In response to Lucknow’s 174/5, Rajasthan openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and debutant Vaibhav Suryavanshi got off to a flying start, powering the hosts to 61/0 at the end of the powerplay. The spotlight was firmly on 14-year-old Suryavanshi, who smashed a six off his very first delivery and was striking at 174. Jaiswal also played his part, bringing up a composed 31-ball half-century as the duo looked well set.

Just when the momentum seemed in Rajasthan’s favour, Aiden Markram struck in the ninth over to dismiss Suryavanshi and break his heart.

On the fourth ball of the over, Markram came around the wicket and bowled full and down the leg side, taking the pace off. The youngster reached out to play it early, got beaten on the outside edge due to the turn, lost his balance, and Rishabh Pant made no mistake behind the stumps. It was a fair delivery, and replays confirmed Suryavanshi’s foot was in the air when the bails were whipped off. The fine knock came to a sudden end as the teary-eyed youngster walked back. The Twitterverse too empathised with the emotional exit and spoke about Suryavanshi’s unfortunate dismissal.
