Cheteshwar Pujara continued his dry run with the bat and was dismissed without troubling scorers in a Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai. Pujara was trapped LBW by Mohit Avasthi who is playing his debut match and the team was bundled out for 220 runs trailing by 324 runs at the end of first innings.

Ranji Trophy for the 2021-22 season has started finally after being canceled last year and postponed this time around. Several Indian players from the national team are participating in the tournament. A match between Mumbai and Saurashtra featured two of the senior Indian batsmen in the form of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. Both of them have been out of form recently and their struggle with the bat at the international level has put their place in the team in danger.

Mumbai batted first and Sarfaraz Khan scored a double century. Ajinkya Rahane also scored a century for the team. In response, Saurashtra was bundled out for 220 in the first innings. Cheteshwar Pujara scored a duck and his performance ahead of the Sri Lanka series has cast doubts over his place in the team. Pujara was trapped LBW by debutant Mohit Avasthi.
