Colin Ackermann extends his Leicestershire stint with a three-year contract entention

Leicestershire have managed to keep hold of their skipper Colin Ackermann as he has penned a three-year contract extension with the club. The 28-year Dutch all-rounder had an amazing 2018-2019 season as he showed amazing captaincy skills and also took a world-record seven-wicket haul in a T20 game against Birmingham Bears. 

"I am very pleased to have extended my contract by another three years. I have really enjoyed my time here at the Fischer County Ground over the last three years so long may that continue," Ackermann told Cricbuzz.

Leicestershire as a team had a pretty dismal season as they finished at the bottom of the standings in all three formats. However, Ackermann was one of the few shining lights in the team with impressive performances with the white ball as well as the red ball. He scored 675 runs at an average of 35.52 and took 12 wickets in the County Championship.

He performed even better in the 50-over competition as he scored 428 runs at an astonishing average of 61.14. He also had a fantastic T20 Blast in which he scored 342 runs at an average of 28.50 and grabbed 12 wickets which included that world-record spell with figures of 7 for 18 against Birmingham.

"We are a young squad and it is fantastic to see the local and younger guys to have that opportunity to make a name for themselves," he stated.

Leicestershire have also managed to hold on to their other core players like Dieter Klein, Harry Swindells, Sam Evans and Harry Dearden. Ackermann is hopeful that with a stable core and a few exciting youngsters, Leicestershire have the capability to turn around their fortunes in the upcoming seasons.

"It is obviously not all going to come together right now but, in a year, or two's time with the likes of Harry Dearden and Sam Evans having another year under their belt - it bodes well for the future," he concluded.
