English skipper Eoin Morgan is expected to be fit for the World Cup opener against South Africa on June 30 despite suffering a minor fracture on his left index finger. He got hit while taking slip catches at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Friday ahead of their warm-up game against Australia.

Eoin Morgan’s injury on Friday came as a major scare for England just ahead of their tournament opener, but the extent of the injury is not very serious, which should settle down the nerves in English dugout. Morgan underwent X-ray scans on Friday and the results revealed a minor fracture on his left index finger. 

Morgan will miss the warm-up game against Australia, but is expected to recover in time and is expected to be available for the inaugural game against South Africa on June 30. 

“England captain Eoin Morgan has sustained a small flake fracture to his left index finger. He will not take part in the match (against Australia), but is expected to make a full recovery and be available for England’s opening ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup match against South Africa at The Oval on Thursday May 30,” an ECB official statement said. 

Morgan is England’s finest ODI player, having played 222 ODIs and hailing of an average of 39.64 including 12 centuries. Morgan has marshalled his troops with perfection in recent times and holds the key to England’s success in this season.
