ICC World Cup 2019 | Usman Khawaja declared ‘safe’ after suffering knock on head

Australia ended up on the winning side as they registered a comfortable win against Windies in their first warm-up game ahead of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 which starts on May 30. The defending champions chased down the target of 230 set by the Caribbean boys in just 39 overs with seven wickets to spare as returning batsman Steven Smith and Shaun Marsh put up a partnership of 109 for the third wicket.

However, there was some cause of concern for the Australian team after batsman Usman Khawaja had to retire hurt as he was struck on his jaw by an Andre Russell bouncer in the second innings in Southampton.

However, after being escorted off the field and undergoing extensive scans post the nasty hit, Khawaja has been declared fit to continue in the World Cup preparations with the national team as per a Tweet by the ICC.

The defending champions’ final warm-up match is against the World Cup hosts and favourites England, who are currently the top-ranked ODI team in the World at the Rose Bowl Ground on Saturday.
