ICC World Cup 2019 | The more you watch something, the more you miss it, says Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood has said that he is trying his best to avoid watching the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 because it just makes him regret not being in England playing alongside his teammates. The Australian pacer added that he is focused on the upcoming Ashes series where he wants to give his best.

Australian spearhead Josh Hazlewood made his ODI debut for the national team back in 2010 against England. The 28-year-old was in contention for a spot in the Australian World Cup squad but missed out due to an injury sustained just before the World Cup. The Sydney Sixers pacer admits he is barely watching the World Cup as his disappointment at not being selected continues to cause him pain.

“I’m trying to focus on what I’m doing up here. I’ll sit down at night and watch a couple of overs but I’m trying to steer clear of it a little bit. The more you watch something, the more you probably miss it. So I’m just trying to pretend it’s not on, to a degree,” Hazlewood told cricket.com.au on Wednesday.

Hazlewood, along with the likes of Peter Handscomb, Travis Head and Marcus Harris, is training in Brisbane ahead of their departure for England on Friday for a seven-week tour. The New South Wales cricketer added that he is totally focused on the upcoming Ashes series which starts after the World Cup.

“I know I can do a great job when I’m physically pretty fresh and that’s how I’m going to enter this Ashes, so I’m looking forward to it. I’ve done as much as I can in the nets,” he said. “It takes that time out in the middle now to get that extra couple of percent up to one hundred,” Hazlewood added.
