India vs Australia | Not thinking about the Ashes yet, says Marcus Harris

Australian opener Marcus Harris has stated that there is still a bit of water to go under the bridge before the Australian team goes to England to play the Ashes. Harris scored 79 in Australia's first innings of the ongoing final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Marcus Harris was all set to score the first century by an Australian batsman in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy but it was not to be as Ravindra Jadeja had other plans. Jadeja got the wicket of Harris on the score of 79 when the latter played on a regulation delivery from the all-rounder. Yet, Harris managed the highest individual score by an Australian batsman in the series which seems to have sealed a spot for him for the Ashes series later in the year.

"There's obviously a bit of water to go under the bridge yet but I feel like my game is in good order, I felt like I've been batting pretty well. The thing as a batter is you always want to make hundreds, so I haven't done that yet. That's definitely one of my goals for the next innings and going forward," Harris said after the day's play, reported Cricket.com.au.

"We've still got a second innings here and another Test series before the Ashes is even to be worried about. There's still a bit of work to do but my game feels in good order."

Harris also explained what he talked to coach Justin Langer when he got out on 79 runs. Harris was playing pretty positively scoring at the strike rate of over 65 until he was bowled by Jadeja.

"I was just frustrated the way I got out. I had been playing pretty positively towards the spinners and then got out playing a pretty half-hearted shot. That was all we spoke about, with JL. It was nothing over the top or anything like that. I was probably more disappointed in myself more than anything," Harris said

Earlier in the match, India in their first innings put on a mammoth score of 622/7 dec. and in reply, Australia is struggling at 236/6 trailing by 386 runs. Assessing the situation Harris stated that though many of their batsmen got starts they were unable to convert those starts into a big score.

"I got a start, a few of us got a start but none of us went on for a big score. So it’s pretty simple to work out what went wrong." Harris said after four of Australia's top five reached 20 at the SCG without kicking on.

"We’re still fighting … still, a bit to play in the first innings yet so we’re a young group and we’re trying to work it out and think on our feet.

The Indian team is currently ranked number one in the Test format. Stating the fact Harris said it is not easy to play against the best team in the world.

"We’re playing against the No.1 side in the world so it’s not like it’s an easy thing to do, but it’s just a few little things we have to adjust to help us make those big scores like you see India make."
