Jason Roy received a blow to the head while batting in the nets on Tuesday and when checked for symptoms of concussion was cleared to continue batting. He was again tested the next day and will undergo one final test for a delayed concussion but will most probably be cleared to play the third Test.

While practicing against throwdowns from the recently retired Marcus Trescothick in the nets ahead of third Ashes test, Jason Roy received a knock directly on the stem guard on Tuesday. He was immediately examined for signs of concussion but the blow turned out to be nothing major and he was allowed to continue with his practice session.

However, with increasing concerns surrounding head injuries in the sport, the opener was again tested before he was allowed to bat on Wednesday morning but was deemed fit to play. A final check up would be made before the start of the match to ensure there are no delayed effects from the hit before being allowed to be named in the starting XI.

While the chances of him being ruled out of the game are low, Ollie Pope will continue to serve as standby incase a change needs to be made in the final minutes. Joe Denly is expected to open the batting in such circumstances while Pope will slot in as a middle-order batsman. Pope was also on unofficial standby in the previous match for the middle-order, while Dominic Sibley was on guard to fill in for the top-order.
