BCCI calls threat to Indian cricket team 'hoax message speculation'

After rumours came out on Pakistani media about a possible security threat to the Indian team in West Indies, the BCCI has stated that the warning is a hoax being spread on social media. Currently, the Indian team is playing a warm-up match against West Indies Board President’s XI in Antigua.

Earlier in the day, Geo Super reported that Pakistan Cricket Board has received a mail with a possible threat to the Indian cricket team in West Indies that the PCB shared with the International Cricket Council. That garnered a lot of attention in the Pakistani media but later in the day, BCCI dismissed the speculation by calling it a hoax message spread across social media according to the Indian Express.

The Indian team is currently playing a warm-up match against West Indies Board President’s XI in Antigua with the first Test between India and West Indies scheduled to start from Thursday. The speculation actually put many to believe it because of the recent geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Indian government scrapping Article 370 from the state of Jammu and Kashmir and dividing it to two Union territories.

Earlier, the last occurrence of a terrorist attack was on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan. However, more recently, the Bangladesh Cricket team had a close escape when an unidentified gunman started firing in a Christchurch mosque in March where the Bangladesh players had gone to offer prayers.
