VIDEO | MS Dhoni coaxes sloppy Ravindra Jadeja playfully after beating him to the ball

Mistakes in fielding are a common phenomenon in cricket and it is the job of the skipper to keep his players confident and determined despite their errors. While it can’t be said about Virat Kohli, Dhoni, with his calm demeanour, has always ensured his players that there’s always another chance.

The match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday was perhaps Chennai Super Kings’ most important game this IPL in terms of qualification. After the yellow army started the game quite well, giving away just 29 runs in the powerplay overs, captain Dhoni was visibly happy with the performance of his bowlers.

With neither Shikhar Dhawan nor Kane Williamson looking in any sort of urgency of accelerating the run-rate, CSK had no worries either. And the biggest hint of their light-heartedness came in the seventh over when Harbhajan Singh was bowling. The spinning veteran was just brought into the attack and he did reasonably well to give just 10 runs after a tight restriction in the powerplay overs.

Making just nine runs in the five balls, Dhawan decided to end the over with a small nudge using soft hands towards mid-wicket for a single. However, given how good both Williamson and Jadeja are between the wickets, Dhoni didn’t risk any chance and went running to collect the ball.

The ball was actually Jadeja’s who was fielding in the mid-wicket, but Dhoni was way quicker than him in a bid to restrict the run to a single. However, instead of using harsh words or giving a stern look for his sloppy teammate, the captain playfully threatened to throw the ball at him with a smile on his face. It served both the face - Jadeja understood his fault and at the same time was confident with the captain’s trust in him.
