Jos Buttler has overtaken MS Dhoni, claims Michael Vaughan

Jos Buttler has been enjoying a purple patch recently. After scoring an unbeaten 43 against West Indies at the Oval, the Englishman travelled to Australia in the hope of salvaging some pride with his team having already conceded the Ashes. Although he scored just four runs in the first ODI, he has been exceptional since then. He scored a quickfire 42 at the Gabba that set up the win for the visitors and followed it up with an unbeaten century at the SCG which helped his side cross the 300-run mark and secure the ODI series victory. 

Former England captain, Vaughan, however, looks to be a prisoner of the moment as he compared the Englishman to legendary Indian wicket-keeper MS Dhoni. 

“The Indians will go nuts because they’ll say ‘there’s MS Dhoni’. Well, I think Buttler’s just gone ahead of MS Dhoni because of his approach and because of the power he brings,” Vaughan told BT Sports.

“Buttler’s done this before for England. I remember in Dubai against Pakistan he just exploded from 50 to 100.He just got the gift, hasn’t he. I don’t there’s a better middle-order batsman in world white-ball cricket.” 

Buttler has scored 2,651 runs in his 102 ODI matches at an average of 38.42. Dhoni, however, has managed to score 9,898 runs at an average of 51.55 and has a 20-over World Cup, 50-over World Cup, one ICC Champions Trophy medal to his name as skipper as well.
