Yusuf Pathan suspended until January 14 for doping violation

BCCI has suspended Yusuf Pathan for four months after finding Terbutaline in his sample, a substance present in WADA’s prohibited list. The Baroda all-rounder has, however, convinced the panel that he had it accidentally while taking medication to treat his Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI).
Fortunately for the hard-hitter, his five-month ban is scheduled to end on the midnight of January 14 as the suspension was backdated to August 15, 2017. The board decided to backdate it after Pathan's promptly admitted the ADRV when confronted by BCCI, who came to the conclusion that the delays in the results management, in this case, would not be “attributable to Mr. Pathan.”
The Kolkata Knight Riders player’s sample was collected last year in March when they found Terbutaline - a substance that's included in the WADA Prohibited List of Substances. Pathan was provisionally suspended on October 27, 2017, pending determination of the charge.
"Mr. Pathan responded to the charge by admitting the ADRV and asserting that it was caused by his ingestion of a medication containing Terbutaline that had been mistakenly given to him instead of the medication prescribed for him, which did not contain any prohibited substance," said BCCI.
"The BCCI is satisfied with Pathan's explanation that he had taken Terbutaline inadvertently to treat an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) and not as a performance-enhancing drug. Having considered all of the evidence and taken expert external advice, the BCCI has accepted Pathan's explanation of the cause of his ADRV, and on that basis has agreed that a period of ineligibility of five months should apply, together with the disqualification of certain results," it added.
