VIDEO | Sarfraz Ahmed devastated as Yasir Shah loses his shoe to invent new run-out

Pakistan cricketers will always be remembered for inventing unique ways of getting out, if not for anything else. While Azhar Ali made headlines earlier with his astonishing obliviousness against Australia, against New Zeland, Yasir Shah lost his shoes midway and still decided to go for a double.

After New Zealand were all dismissed for just 274 runs, Pakistan looked to be in complete control of the game with Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq scoring centuries and taking the lead easily. However, once Shafiq was sent back to the pavilion reducing Pakistan to 304/5, Pakistan batting collapsed like a house of cards.

With Babar Azam and Bilal Asif adding just 29 more runs to the scoreboard before departing, it was time for skipper Sarfraz Ahmed to steady the ship. He also looked stable with the bat on the other end, while his teammates were getting dismantled as Pakistan tried to at least reach the 400-run mark before asking New Zealand to bat again.

However, that was not to happen as William Somerville continued with his wicket-taking stint. It is the 133rd over when Sarfraz was facing Somerville. The skipper had beautifully played Somerville by flicking the ball towards mid-wicket as he called for a double. Collin de Grandhomme was quick to reach the ball from the deep field and return the throw at the non-striker’s end.

Despite his quick reflexes, Pakistan could still have easily finished a double but calamity struck. Shah appeared to lose his shoe after the first run and slipped in the rush. But, Sarfraz was determined to retain strike and called for two without even seemingly looking at his partner. Shah obeyed captain’s call and consequently got out. The skipper was seen shouting at the spinner for his stupidity and not refusing the call before kneeling down with his head dropped in disappointment.

This was a day that would be remembered for Cheteshwar Pujara’s stoic innings as much as for the other Indian batsman's lack of application. India ended the day with a score of 250/9, with a lot of a job left for the bowlers to do given the wicket has stopped showing any movement later in the day.
