Murali Vijay starred for India during the 2014 tour as he scored 400+ runs in England, but his defensive technique, in particular, was one of the highlights of that series. But unfortunately, Vijay’s defense let him down on day three of the first Test as Stuart Broad dismissed Vijay for six.
Ishant Sharma’s five-wicket haul on day three of the Edgbaston Test ensured that team India entered their second innings as firm favorites to pull off a stunning win in the opening Test of the five-match series. With opener Murali Vijay at the helm of affairs, India looked to be set for a crucial win especially as opening partner Shikhar Dhawan also looked in good touch. However, England pacers James Anderson, Sam Curran and Stuart Broad are renowned for their fighting spirit and would surely not go down without a fight.
The entire Indian batting line-up in 2014 that included Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and MS Dhoni watched Vijay in awe as he played some good knocks during the entirety of the series. But it wasn’t to be this time around, as England fast-bowler Stuart Broad had a different plan in mind.
As Broad brought the ball in, Vijay offered no shot thinking the ball was away from the stumps. The right-handed batsman put his foot forward to shield the ball. The ball hit the pad and the umpire gave an LBW in an instant. Broad picked up the wicket of Dhawan too as India look to be struggling in the second innings.
