WATCH : India's sloppy fielding allows Sri Lanka get away with running gaffes, TWICE

The first opportunity for India came in the 35th over of the innings when Thisara Perera pushed a Jasprit Bumrah delivery to deep mid-wicket. While Perera wanted to take a third run, his partner Asela Gunaratne was not interested and there arose a comedy of errors – by both the teams. With Perera almost at the midway of the pitch, MS Dhoni was seen swinging his hands frantically trying to get Hardik Pandya's attention so that the latter could throw at the danger end. But Pandya failed to see, or realize, the same and threw the ball to the non-striker’s end where Chahal could not do too much with the ball which in turn allowed Perera to safely return back to his crease.

However, that was not the end of the embarrassment for the fielding unit today as Bhuvneshwar Kumar was left red faced 14 balls later for a gaffe that was equally, if not worse than, Pandya's one. On the third ball of the 37th over, Sachith Pathirana poked a Kumar delivery towards the point where Karthik was stationed. The Tamil Nadu player got low to his left and collected the ball that created doubt in the minds of the batsmen, both of whom looked stranded at the striker's end. Gunaratne, who had waltz over to the striker's end, decided to turn around and make a run for the other end. However, he looked like a man walking the green mile as the throw was Karthik's throw was straight at Bhuvneshwar. The Indian pacer, though, failed to collect the ball as it bounced out of his hands with Gunaratne still scampering to make his way back.  

While India had already wrestled back control of the game, Sri Lanka still looked dangerous due to the docile nature of the pitch. Keeping that in mind as the camera panned towards the stand-in skipper, there were a variety of expressions on his face. Ranging from an obvious disappointed one to a one fo pure frustration, Rohit didn't fail to pull off expressions that would have made Aamir Khan proud.
