Luck is a word that has often been attached to MS Dhoni's name all throughout his captaincy reign. In the second ODI against Sri Lanka yesterday, that again came to his rescue as Vishwa Fernando's delivery hit his pads before rolling back to the stumps but surprisingly, bails remained undisturbed.

Chasing a minuscule target of 231 runs, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put on their 11th-century stand for the first wicket, but much to the surprise of Indian fans, Akila Dananjaya's sensational spell of bowling got Sri Lanka so close to recording their first win over India in the bilateral series. However, the hosts were left cursing their luck as MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulled off a sensational three-wicket win to maintain India's unbeaten run on the tour on Thursday.

While there was no denying the fact that the duo batted magnificently, the luck lady also played her part to ensure India a victory as Dhoni was almost gone in the 35th over of the game when Vishwa Fernando's delivery almost found its way to disturb Dhoni's furniture.

The incident took place when Dhoni was batting on 29. And after getting the lifeline, he went on to score 16 more runs, but more importantly, was involved in a match-winning unbeaten 100-run stand with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (53), who slammed his maiden fifty in one-day internationals to take India down the line.

The third ODI of the series will be played on August 27 in Pallekele.
