India captain Virat Kohli has gained 10 places in the latest ICC Test rankings to reach a career-high 4th position after his impressive performance against England in the Vizag Test. Cheteshwar Pujara also went up a position landing at 9th after his 119 in the first innings of the second Test.

Kohli, who holds the top spot in the Twenty20 Internationals rankings, has topped the ranking charts for ODI's as well, but he had never been placed above 10th place in Tests. However, his impressive scores of 167 and 81 on either side of the England innings ensured that he crossed the 800-point mark for the very first time in his career. Only 10 Indian batsman have managed to achieve the feat before the current Test captain.

His efforts in Vizag, where India won by a massive 246 runs, earned Kohli 97 points, that saw him gain 10 places in the rankings. The Delhi-born lad is now just 22 points behind Englishman Joe Root, who is in second place behind Aussie captain Steve Smith.

Cheteshwar Pujara, too, gained a place to reach No. 9 after a well made119 in the first innings of the Vizag Test. The English duo of Jonny Bairstow (12) and Ben Stokes (28) were the big gainers for the Europeans moving up by four and five places respectively.

It wasn't just the bowlers whose efforts were rewarded as Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami reached a career-high 21st rank after gaining 5 places. Ravindra Jadeja also gained a place and landed on sixth position.

Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali too gained places with the former reaching fifth after rising one spot while the latter's four place rise saw him finish at the 23rd position.
